“Wow, how many teams would benefit to remove toxic environments, before they’re established”

It made me feel seen.

Coaching is often seen as ‘the dark arts’ so to have someone from outside the industry clearly identify the positive impact it could have was incredibly empowering.

I must have explained it really clearly.

Networking Event

This morning I had the opportunity to speak at a county-wide business networking event about what coaching means to me. Although it was only a short session, it was a valuable chance to share my approach—and, judging by the feedback, it resonated with many of the business owners in the room.

One of the key points I emphasised is that coaching isn’t a one-size-fits-all service. For me, it’s about building a genuine partnership with clients—working alongside them to help unlock their potential and support them in becoming the best version of themselves.

I also spoke about the relationship between work and life. They don’t operate in isolation, and the reality is that each inevitably influences the other. At times, work can feel all-consuming—deadlines, events, client demands—while life outside of work can bring its own challenges, whether that’s illness, moving home, or major personal changes.

Recognising and managing this balance is essential. Coaching provides a space to step back, gain perspective, prioritise what matters, and ultimately reduce the risk of burnout.

It was a privilege to share these thoughts and connect with others navigating similar challenges.

Let’s talk community

Our communities are made up of lots of different aspects:

Home and Family
Work
Social

For many of us being part of a community has huge positive impacts:

Feeling we belong
Feeling useful
A sense of contributing to something bigger

This week, I find myself in all 3 of those camps:

A Christmas gathering with my Networking group, Cocosphere,
Helping out a friend in need
A charity swim at my local outdoor pool,

At this time of year some people find themselves isolated and alone. If you know someone who might find it tricky, can you make them part of your community?

And if anyone is feeling generous, all donations, however small, are gratefully received.

UPDATE

Proud to be part of a community that pulls together to raise £1200 for Mount Vernon Garden this week by swimming the length of the channel. The power of community and its impact on our own sense of self cannot be underestimated.

20/20 Coaching

I had the privilege of chatting with Julie Anne Crabb, recording and episode of her fab podcast 20/20 coaching conversations for the new year.

We talked about the importance of trust and security in the coaching relationship (ICF core competency).

It is something that I feel is top priority in any coaching relationship and work hard to cultivate it with all my clients.

Coaching is always a partnership and we are always learning. I wonder what aspect has impacted most on how other coaches walk through life.
